SIP weaves a service network of 350 outlets for reading popularization

By the end of January, SIP had seen 350 outlets established within its reading service network, covering 144 communities and 12 community clubs. Paper books can be borrowed and returned at both SIP Library and its branches.

The network is still expanding. The library in SIP Eastern Citizen Center, which is expected to open in the first half of this year, will join soon.

As public reading spaces increase, SIP’s reader services are improving. Three reading routes launched last year have made reading resources available in sightseeing boats, subway stations, and even the Ferris wheel by Jinji Lake.

Furthermore, digital applications have been employed to allow readers to borrow books online and conveniently collect or return them via self-service kiosks installed in communities and neighborhood centers. Readers can also borrow a book from a community-based reading room through simple operations using a smart phone.

Apart from that, events such as new book launch and authors’ salon sessions are frequently held in SIP to encourage reading. Recently, SIP launched its annual reading promotion campaign which consists of a series of events that will last throughout the year.

These efforts have greatly popularized reading among the public. Last year, the SIP Library system received 6.88 million readers, up 8.5% over the previous year.
